Sam Paris, LCSW

Sam is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. He later moved to New York where he received his Masters of Social Work degree at New York University in 2012. Sam’s interest have largely been in community mental health, however, he has also worked in a variety of other settings, including an elementary school, a psychiatric hospital and a residential facility. Sam has successfully treated clients suffering from depression, anxiety, relationship and parenting difficulties, along with other clinical issues such as substance abuse, fire setting, and physical and sexual assault.

Sam is especially passionate about working with individuals who have experienced trauma. By partnering with clients, individuals learn how to process, heal, and transform themselves. Sam utilizes evidence-based, narrative, and experiential treatment models including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), TFCBT (Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), and STAIR-NST (Skills Training in Affective and Interpersonal Regulation – Narrative Storytelling), as well as relaxation and yoga practices, to help clients overcome current and prior obstacles and traumatic experiences.

Sam’s Approach to Helping:

Sam believes that negative life experiences often cause one to lose sight of the inherent inner greatness that every person has within them. Uncovering and bringing out the true inner self through empathic listening, validating, and active collaboration helps each individual process their life story, experiences, and feelings. By discovering their essence, Sam believes every aspect of one’s self can be transformed.
