  • The goal of discernment counseling is not to fix the relationship or make a decision to stay together, but rather to help each partner understand their own needs and priorities.
  • The therapist acts as a neutral facilitator, guiding the couple through difficult conversations and helping them explore their options.
  • Discernment counseling typically involves a limited number of sessions, with a focus on helping the couple gain insight and make an informed decision about the future of their relationship.

What to expect:

First session: We meet with both partners together to understand your relationship, individual perspectives, and shared goals.

Following sessions: Work on specific issues using proven techniques, practice new communication skills, complete exercises between sessions, and track your progress together.

Research shows that over 97% of people surveyed believe they received helpful support from couples therapy, making it one of the most effective interventions for relationship challenges.

Play Therapy: Healing Through Play

Child Therapy Using Creative Expression

What is it?

A specialized therapeutic approach where children express feelings, work through challenges, and develop coping skills through play—the natural language of childhood.

Who it helps?

  • Young children experiencing emotional or behavioral difficulties

  • Kids who have experienced trauma or abuse

  • Children dealing with anxiety, fears, or separation issues

  • Kids struggling with ADHD, autism spectrum, or developmental challenges

  • Children adjusting to divorce, loss, or family changes

  • Kids with anger management issues or aggression

  • Children experiencing school-related stress

Why play therapy works:

Children often can't express complex emotions with words. Play therapy allows them to communicate, process experiences, and heal in a developmentally appropriate way. Research shows play therapy is highly effective for childhood anxiety, trauma, behavioral issues, and social-emotional challenges.

What happens in play therapy sessions:

Your child will have access to carefully selected toys, art materials, puppets, sandtrays, and games. Our trained play therapists observe how your child uses these materials and guide them toward healing through:

  • Storytelling and role-playing

  • Art and creative expression

  • Puppet play and dramatic scenarios

  • Sandtray work

  • Games and structured activities

  • Movement and body-based play

Does your child have trouble dealing with their emotions? Is their behavior sometimes disruptive to your home life? Have they experienced sudden loss or trauma? As they grow, children and adolescents develop social skills and emotional intelligence. This awareness helps them to develop into healthy, happy, and successful individuals. But some children have trouble processing their emotions and this often leads to behavior that negatively impacts their school life, home life and overall well-being. Therapy offers children and adolescents a safe space to work through their thoughts and emotions. With the help of a specialized therapist, children can resolve problems, modify behaviors, and make positive and lasting changes.

Our play therapy specialties:

  • Trauma-focused play therapy
  • Child-centered play therapy

  • Cognitive behavioral play therapy

  • Sandtray and world-building

  • Creative and expressive play therapy

  • Animal-assisted play therapy

Parent involvement:

We believe parents are essential partners in the healing process. We provide:

  • Regular parent consultations to discuss progress

  • Guidance on supporting your child at home

  • Skills training for managing difficult behaviors

  • Family sessions when appropriate

Treatment goals typically include:

  • Reducing anxiety and fear
  • Processing traumatic experiences safely

  • Improving emotional regulation and coping skills

  • Building self-esteem and confidence

  • Developing social skills

  • Expressing feelings in healthy ways

  • Reducing problematic behaviors

School Mental Health Assemblies

Bridge to Balance offers engaging school assemblies focused on promoting mental health awareness among school-aged youth. These assemblies are designed to help students better understand mental health, build essential social and emotional skills, and learn practical strategies for maintaining psychological well-being.

The mental health assemblies cover a wide range of age-appropriate topics, including empathy, kindness, respect, emotional awareness, stress management, coping with frustration, and how to ask for help. Schools can also collaborate with Bridge to Balance to create customized assembly topics that address the specific needs of their school community.

Recent school programs, such as “Respect, Empathy, and Kindness: Building a Better World Together,” combine interactive discussion with hands-on learning experiences. Some assemblies also feature our certified therapy dogs to increase student engagement and demonstrate how animals can support emotional learning and positive behavior.

Mental health awareness assemblies provide clear benefits for students and schools. Educators consistently report high concern for student mental health, particularly in areas related to behavior, social skills, and emotional regulation. Research shows that social and emotional learning programs can improve student confidence, engagement, behavior, and overall well-being. By increasing mental health awareness and teaching empathy and kindness, these school assemblies help create supportive learning environments and encourage students to seek help when needed.

Comprehensive Psychological Evaluations

Bridge to Balance provides comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations and psychological testing for children, adolescents, and adults. These professional evaluation services are designed to identify cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and attention-related factors that may be impacting academic performance, workplace success, or daily functioning.

Comprehensive psychoeducational assessments examine areas such as intelligence, memory, academic achievement, attention, and social or emotional functioning. For children and adolescents, evaluations can support school-based accommodations such as IEPs and 504 plans. For adults, testing may help determine the need for workplace accommodations. Each evaluation includes a detailed written report with clear findings and personalized recommendations for intervention.

Bridge to Balance also offers specialized ADHD testing for both children and adults. ADHD evaluations assess attention, impulse control, memory, processing speed, and behavior through standardized testing and surveys. These assessments help clarify whether ADHD may be contributing to challenges at school, work, or home and include a focused written report with treatment and support recommendations.

Intelligence testing is available as a standalone service for individuals of all ages. These assessments measure reasoning, problem-solving, planning, decision-making, and judgment. Results provide valuable insight into cognitive strengths and areas for growth, along with a concise written summary.

With a highly trained professional and a full range of mental health services, Bridge to Balance offers reliable psychoeducational testing and support for informed decision-making and long-term success. Families and individuals can contact the practice to learn more or schedule an evaluation.
